​Verisimilitude

Verisimilitude, an artist book comprising an original drawing, series of other drawings in reproduction.

Could suspension of disbelief or poetic faith be applied to documents? Verisimilitude is an artist book speculating that it’s cut outs of woman’s magazines from the 1950’ and 1960’ies, with illustrations speculating that they are images from these magazines, with an original drawing included which is on its turn speculating that it’s a reproduction.

The spatial presentation includes (sometimes) a life-size drawing of a family with their cow. Maybe they are just showing off with their big cow. Maybe they’ve just sold it. Maybe it’s about to go to the slaughterhouse.

The work was exhibited at Hugo Voeten Art Center, Hangar 18, Hotel Henry Van de Velde and during Art on Paper Brussels 2016 (Sofam prize for best solo show, with Jozsa gallery).
